I wasn’t as close to my family growing up due to the generational trauma and disconnection from the cultural gap. Verbal communication had its limits, nothing was shared, so I left. It has been seven years since I’ve come back and now I realized that I prematurely detached myself from my own roots. As a way of exploring my own identity, drawing has become a surrogate for verbal communication towards my family. I start from the observational and include the unseen energies that animate the room. I use drawing as a way to ground myself in a present situation. The act slows me down, allowing for my eyes to appreciate and get to know the small details within my surroundings. Before I know it, I’m deeply invested in the moment and drawing becomes a way for me to understand and access my feelings within the setting in front of me.
My body through photography is a somatic marker for work-related depletion, daily fatigue, and landscape curiosity while performing identity in response to interiors, semi-interiors, and landscapes as a reaction to overstimulation.
Along with my personal work, I do commissions. I am open to expanding my practice and translating my own work into other forms.
Say hello.
